This skill's short video goes here. What it does
Reviews UI animations, state transitions, and micro-interactions (hover, focus, loading) against established motion design principles: duration, easing, functional purpose of the movement, and visual hierarchy. Produces a report with concrete findings and adjustment recommendations.
When to use it
- Reviewing an interface before launch to catch clunky or unnecessary animations
- Defining motion design standards for a team or product
- Diagnosing why a transition feels slow, abrupt, or confusing
Steps
- Inventory the animations and transitions present in the interface
- Evaluate each for duration, easing curve, and functional purpose
- Identify purely decorative movement with no clear function
- Compare against reference principles (hierarchy, continuity, immediate feedback)
- Write concrete adjustment recommendations (duration, easing, remove/add)
- Deliver the report as a draft for discussion before implementing changes

--- name: motion-design-reviewer description: Audit UI animations, transitions, and hover states against established motion and interaction design principles. --- # Motion & Interaction Design Reviewer ## When to use it When an interface needs its animations and micro-interactions reviewed before launch or as part of a product refinement pass. ## What gets evaluated Animation duration, easing curve, functional purpose (does it communicate something, or is it decorative?), spatial continuity, and user feedback. ## Common mistakes Animations too long that slow perceived speed, linear easing that feels robotic, movement unrelated to the user's action. ## Audit process 1. List every visible animation and transition. 2. Classify each as functional or decorative. 3. Measure or estimate duration and easing type. 4. Flag inconsistencies with the rest of the design system. ## Final report Table with element, detected issue, principle violated, and specific adjustment recommendation. ## Safety rules The report is always a draft of recommendations. No code or design change is implemented without explicit user approval. Never invent unmeasured performance metrics. No credentials shared in chat.
